vmware workstation player vm backup and export

in the latest version of vmware workstation player (14) you can no longer backup a vm or export a vm from the gui instead you need to run ovtool from the command line

C:\> "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Player\OVFTool\ovftool.exe" -h

eg

C:\> ovftool.exe path-to-your-vmx path-to-your-ova-file-or-ovf-dir

you can specify target type instead of using file suffix ie OVA, OVF

C:\> ovftool.exe --targettype OVA path-to-your-vmx path-to-your-ova-file

vmware vms with peppermint 8 dont work with open-vm-tools

in a peppermint 8 gnu/linux vmware vm open-vm-tools and open-vm-tools-desktop do not work so when installing peppermint 8 into a vmware vm do not use open-vm-tools (the screen never resizes)

use VMware Workstation Player | Manage | Install VMware tools instead
and when you run vmware-config-tools.pl say NO to all the questions ESPECIALLY

Would you like to enable VMware automatic kernel modules? NO
